The Allied Health Professions Education Forum (AHPEd.F) partners are:

Glasgow Caledonian University

The Robert Gordon University

The University of Strathclyde

Queen Margaret University

AHPEd.F remit is:

  • Sharing information from established networks and committees in the United Kingdom, Europe and internationally
  • Being proactive in identifying areas of concern and influencing policy developments especially as they affect pre- and post-registration education.
  • Responding to policy initiatives (primarily in Scotland) through expressing common views
  • Exploring potential collaboration in research, commercialisation and education provision.

Background:

Following a meeting in February 2000 of senior academic representatives of the Professions Allied to Medicine across Scotland, it was agreed that such a group could contribute significantly in debating and shaping policy. Discussions at the meeting highlighted several areas of shared interest or concern where a view from the Forum would carry greater weight in both developing and responding to policy initiatives.

Role:

The Forum will provide an opportunity for academic Heads of AHPs in Scotland to discuss strategically issues affecting education and research, particularly in relation to practice within the Allied Health Professions.

Where appropriate the Forum will allow a common voice to be heard on particular matters. This will be important in communicating with relevant bodies, for example the NHSiS, the Scottish Executive, the Scottish Parliament, SHEFC and the Health Professions Advisory Group. In addition, the Forum will permit articulation with appropriate professional bodies and other groups in England and Wales.

AHPEd.F Membership:

  • Deans of University Health Faculties/Schools in Scotland
  • Representatives of all academic departments teaching approved programmes of AHP study in Scotland.
  • Representatives of Scottish Executive Health Department, NHS Education for Scotland, NHS Quality Improvement Scotland.
  • Directors of the West of Scotland, East of Scotland and North of Scotland Nursing and AHP Research Centres.

Frequency of meetings:

Three per year plus one joint meeting with the AHP Forum Scotland

Topics for discussion:

AHP matters from policy, through education to practice.
